During my time contracting with MITRE, I had the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of MITRE.org — a site that serves as a critical hub for sharing MITRE’s thought leadership, research, and mission-driven work with the world.

This project combined my passion for building flexible, user-friendly Drupal sites with my commitment to accessibility and modern development practices. Here’s a look at how I helped shape the site behind the scenes:

My Contributions

Engineered Custom Drupal Functionality
I built and implemented custom functionality to extend Drupal’s core capabilities. This included crafting hooks and modules to handle complex content fields and relationships, ensuring editors could manage large volumes of information without friction.

Developed & Managed Flexible Paragraph Types
One of my key focuses was creating and maintaining reusable paragraph types. These modular content blocks made it easy for the MITRE content team to build pages with consistent, flexible layouts — whether they were sharing detailed research, announcements, or thought pieces.

Enhanced Interactivity with ES6 JavaScript
To enrich the user experience, I authored and maintained custom JavaScript using ES6. This included interactive elements and dynamic behaviors that helped keep the site engaging while maintaining performance and best practices.

Collaborated & Problem Solved
I worked closely with project stakeholders to understand evolving requirements, then translated those needs into practical, scalable technical solutions. When challenges arose, I diagnosed issues quickly and delivered timely fixes and enhancements to keep the site running smoothly.

Prioritized Accessibility
A major part of my role was ensuring that the MITRE.org site met Section 508 compliance standards. I conducted accessibility audits and implemented the necessary improvements so that the site is usable by everyone — aligning with MITRE’s commitment to serving the public interest.

The Outcome

Thanks to our team’s collaborative effort, MITRE.org continues to be a trusted, flexible platform for delivering critical information and insights to a wide audience. The site is robust, accessible, and easy to maintain — giving the MITRE team confidence that their digital presence will grow alongside their mission.
